Installing Office97 SUITE on a laptop with Word only
(too old to reply)

I've put it off long enough since I only really needed word, but now I
need a portable version of powerpoint by next Wednesday. I used to own
Office97, and it's still installed on an ancient desktop running
win95, but I lost my CD. I've found a "pirated" copy of the CD that
accepts my product key when I tried installing it with Virtual PC
under win98 so I could run Avast! anti-virus and Spybot Search &
destroy in a safe enviornment without worrying about purging any
nastys.

Now I'd like to install that version of powerpoint on a laptop running
win98FE. Will I run in to any problems since there is already a copy
of Word on there with a different product key that was apparently a
stand-alone release that came bundled with the laptop? The original
owner gave me all it's bundled CDs when she passed it on to me years
ago.

I just want to know if I have to remove Word before reinstalling it as
I don't want to lose my settings or custom normal.dot if I don't have
to.

I'd post this in the office forum, but it's dead on Google.

Try the Office group.

No idea what group you tried but the one above has quite a lot of
traffic (unlike this Win95 group you posted to)
